Its been a while since I last posted here and there have been reasons, first one of the changes I mentioned on the past update is that we will be moving our blog to Bulbagarden, it will be hosted there from now on. I think this is great news the url is here:

I've had a lot of ideas on what exactly I wanted to do with this site. For now I will continue doing things and see how they change. For various different reasons updates haven't consistent but I will be changing that (or trying to ;P). I do have a lot of content ready to be posted so things should be interesting around here again. However there is also going to be a small change which should happen in a bit.

Pokemon Trading Figure Game Review

The Figure finally came out in the US, the release date was September 19th (after being delayed a month) and then apparently pushed back to Oct. 3rd but I found them on my game store this past weekend after the Toys R Us Manaphy event. Glad to see the game finally released here, I've been looking forward to the game since I found the pokemon-figures.com website in 05 or 06.I found it at my local game store and grabbed the two starter sets since its the only things they had.

The game as first released in Europe and Australia to "test" the Market. It seemed odd since I'd think Japan or America where Pokemon is a lot bigger would be a good place to "start" the game. Anyways the game bombed there and from what I've read it made sense. You have a smaller market there, the figures were priced high and the booster randomization of the boosters apparently was very bad. When you're paying a lot of money for something you don't want to have the same "common" figure everyone has.

I feel things have been fixed for the American release though I've already seen two different commercials being played on TV. Also instead of expensive randomized boosters they have three different SKU's:
-A single visible figure
-A visible figure and a "hidden" figure and trainer card.
-A promo visible figure (D/P Pokemon) a visible figure and a hidden figure and trainer card.

You also have the two different starters which include a trainer figure and three Pokemon (all visible). It also includes a rule book, the playing mat, three trainer cards and a figures collection/poster. Those cost $15 which with tax equaled to about $4 a figure, it may seem high for a figure especially for kids but they are worth it. The single boosters I was told cost $3.99 don't know about the other ones. By being able to view the figures and having a "mystery" figure you can still get something you payed for while having something random so its a nice mix.

Anyways now to the review of the actual figures and game:

The packaging on the starter packs is well done, you can clearly see the figures which I think is one of the selling points of the game. Like mentioned the starter pack comes with everything you'd need to play the game, well except an opponent with 3 figures. You can also play the game 6 on 6 but three is enough for a simpler game.

The actual figures themselves are amazing, they are bigger than most figure games which allows them to be very detailed. Even if this wasn't a game the figures should sell themselves. I've collected Pokemon figures since the beginning and these are the best I've seen. The poses and details are great. The spinning bases work without problem.

I had doubts about the game after I read some of the rules from other people who had played it overseas, I thought it might not be that much fun however I was wrong. The game is game is truly simple for most to play but has a lot of complexity as well. The spinning to attack is not bad to the game by adding too much randomness. Three on three games can be fast or long, while six on six is sure to have epic matches that will take longer and add more strategy, especially when you add the trainer figures and cards. The game can only get better with more expansions that would add more strategy. The basic thing is at the end of the game you had fun and you want to pay again. I hope the game is not too expensive for kids as they are the target audience. The game is fun and the figures are amazing. I have played the Trading Card Game since it came out and I think the figure game is a lot more fun. Hope the people and the company give the game a chance as it starts and to see more expansions to the TFG. Highly Recommended to any Pokemon fans whether you like the anime/games/TCG and also recommended to anyone else.

Pokemon Trainer in Smash Bros Brawl

Pretty big news, the trainer is based from the FireRed/LeafGreen main character. Which is why he uses the first generation starters. He also has one in each of their evolutions, Squirtle (basic), Ivysaur (Second), Charizard (Final). You switch using down B, and you have to worry about stuff like stamina, pretty damn cool.

Wow, the pictures from the review came out bad on the blog. I'll fix that for next time. I promised updates through out the week and failed again, heck I didn't even do the easy "Pokemon Theme" update on Saturday or post the already written review of Pokemon the Movie 2000.

Things keep getting in the way, not much else I can say. This week I will be posting about this website...random facts, oldnews, future etc. Its going to be different than what I've done before. Pokemon World Championships for the Trading Card Game is also next weekend so there will be no article or theme next week either as I will be providing random coverage. I'll keep this blog informed through out the week. I also did a tiny update on The Pokeblog if anyone even wondered what was up with that.

Pokemon Season 1 Indigo League box set review

I chose the original Pokemon theme as an update for yesterday since I thought it'd be nice to review the first season Pokemon box set, especially with all the first season marathons Cartoon Network has been having.

The front features stock images of Ash, Misty and Brock along with Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtel and it looks rather nice. The box itself is pretty much like previous Pokemon Box-sets releases with the standard cardboard box holding three DVD cases with one disc in the inside. Something cooler could have been done but its not bad either and it goes nicely with the previous box sets, even if they haven't been consistent with the spines.

The covers of the DVD cases is also generic but gets the job done as it really reminds you of that era in the cartoon, they feature Ash and Pikachu, Team Rocket and Misty with Starmie and Brock. The DVDs also feature pastel colors that make them look very kid friendly, some older fans might complain about that but I really like it and it truly shows the spirit of what Pokemon was in the late 90s.

The spines of the DVD cases have one of the starter Pokemon which is rather neat. Each DVD case has a paper with the episodes on that DVD and either Pikachu, Meowth or Starmie. The Menus themselves are like most other Pokemon DVD releases rather boring with just a static images in the menus. No extras whatsoever, not even subtitles.

The quality in the episodes is good and pretty much like past Pokemon DVDs. One bad thing is the Pokerap is not at the end of each episode. Instead the full Pokerap is included in the last episode of each disc. I would have rather have the Pokerap in Parts at the end of each episode like aired with the full PokeRap as a bonus.
Disc 1 has:

This disc starts with Ash's journey just beginning meeting Team Rocket and Misty and healing his Pokemon. He later catches two Pokemon and watches his Caterpie evolve into Metapod. He meets a Samurai and Metapod evolves and is now a Butterfree. Ash gets his first Badge, goes through Mt. Moon to get to Cerulean City and his second badge. At this point he hasn't really earned any of his badges though. Ash gets cocky and looses and encounters a School for Pokemon trainers. So a lot happens in just the first 7 episodes. The last two while fillers have an interesting story and are among many peoples favorites.

Disc 2:

In this disc we see Ash get all three starter Pokemon and he meets Bill in a rather strange episode. He has a tough challenge for his third badge but earns it at the end. They ride the St. Anne in a multi-part episode and the Pokemon get a cool episode and some mad tentacool/tentacruel. This disc also goes by quickly as there is always something happening and even the last episode here is the first "Pokemon going rogue" story in the series.

Disc 3:

20. Bye Bye Butterfree
21. Abba And The Psychic Showdown
22. The Tower Of Terror
23. Haunter Verus Kadabra

Here we get an odd yet interesting filler, Butterfree's departure and an epic battle with Sabrina. We then get three fillers which are not bad and not a bad change after so much happenings. Sadly no Beauty in the Beach episode on this set.

As you can see this set includes a bunch of key episodes and the most fondly remembered ones from the series. I think this set should be flying off the shelves as people who liked Pokemon during the Fad would be all over this for nostalgia. Very few fillers here and most are very memorable. You can get get this set as cheap as $22 if you shop right (Amazon, DeepDiscount.com). Not only is this set highly recommended, its a must have for any Pokemon fan past or present. Even if you never checked out the anime or you gave up on Pokemon a long time ago. This set basically represents Pokemon in the 90s.

Original Pokemon Theme / Opening (first season)

Here we have the original Pokemon theme song from the show. It used parts of the Japanese opening with a few clips from the show. The rock theme and catchy slogan in the song really made it a memorable song. The intro especially works well with Mewtwo and Mew flying in. I remember when I first saw it I was like "Holy Shit its Mewtwo! OMG AND MEW!!!". You have to remember this is when Nintendo was still hiding the existence of Mew in America. It really got me pumped up seeing the Pokemon world I had played so much on my game animated. The colors are also so vibrant, it was perfect, no wonder its a fan favorite.

Sorry for the lack of updates last week but this week should be better, at least I've been a bit more consistent.

Mastermind of Mirage Pokemon Review (new DVD dub)

My original plan was to have a review of Pokemon the Movie 2000 (which is why I had the Theme song for that season yesterday) but that will have to wait until next week. Instead we are going to have a review of the Mastermind of Mirage Pokemon DVD that comes with the Lucario movie. I actually wanted to have this review in 2008 since it'd be the tenth anniversary of Pokemon here in the US but I'd rather post something today. And sorry because of this change in plans no pictures.

The music on the menu's doesn't seem to fit the theme of the movie but at least the menu's are interesting unlike most other Pokemon DVDs.. The Special features are website addresses....which how is that a special feature? But there is also a letter to fans that is actually an interesting read about this 10th anniversary special.

The special gets into the action quickly which is nice. Since it was made mostly for American audiences they decided Misty was very popular and so was Prof. Oak so they placed them in the adventure. Since it takes place in Kanto it makes sense for them to bet here. Ash also seems to be acting a lot like overconfident n00b Ash from the first season, which seems odd yet fun to see since it is the 10th anniversary special. It was also nice to see one last Ash and Misty adventure. I think this special was actually pretty epic. Even the ending made me sad. Professor Oak also shined on this one as he explained everything. Some parts in the special do seem to randomly change of scenarios and some out of character quotes but it doesn't take from the enjoyment. I remember when I first watched the special for a while I thought Mirage Master was Mewtwo. It made sense since he is always shown with a cloak in the intros and he was wearing a mask to hide his face, also his hatred of Mew seemed somewhat relevant even if they end up friends on the first movie.

The new dub on the special is mostly better than the old one, though I still think the old one is fine. The song for the intro is definitely worse. I guess that'll prove to the people that think anything rap sucks wrong.

Orange Islands Opening

Starting last week I wanted to have a "Article Sunday" with just a more thought out entry on whatever. I do have various ideas lined up and today I was going to do my review of the Kanto box set. However like I stated here a few days ago, I' going through some stuff so I decided instead of writing a half-assed entry to just postpone it until next week. It does mess up my timing a little bit but nothing too bad.

Pokemon Battle Revolution Reviews

Pretty much every major videogame website has a review of Pokemon Battle Revolution for the Wii. A lot of "meh" scores, but all Pokemon fans pretty much know what we were getting so we already knew if it was worth it or not for us. me personally its worth it. Of course I think I decided to just wait for it to be players choice. I of course didn't have time to link every single review but you know, 1up, ign, gamespot the reviews shouldn't be hard to find if you want to read them. Bulbanews is reporting that all nine Pokemon movies are being collected in two box sets for Japan. Mostly since the new movie will be the tenth movie which is a nice milestone. I wonder if PUSA is going to do anything like this for the US. I kind of not want that to happen since like Iposted a week ago I just bought most of the movies since I didn't think this was ever going to happen...

Kind of ironic if you actually read the other post and I comment on this very issue. On another issue some things are kind of going bad for me at the moment so I might not feel like updating some days.

Pokemon Battle Revolution came out today. I am unsure if I will get it or not as I am low on money, however for those who are Circuit City has the game for $40, not a bad deal.

History of Connectivity

Connectivity, a simple word that causes gamers to shiver upon hearing it. Ever since the year 2002 when Nintendo decided it would focus on 'it' instead of online gaming,
Viewed skeptical since it was announced and never quite took off. Was it really that bad or did gamers miss out on what could have been one of the most innovative/helpful tools to gaming?

Well first lets go back to what basically laid the foundations of Connecting:

The Past

The Super Gameboy while only allowing you to play your gameboy games it was the first form of connectivity, and starting with games like Donkey Kong '93, companies could program a special border when played on the screen and even adding some color to the games.

Like many other Japanese products, it got a second release that had a link cable so you could play multiplayer games, it was only released through mail-in forms in the US.

Pokemon came full swing giving even more life to the Gameboy new life, this is when Connectivity first started, Nintendo thought how Japanese gamers would love to have their Pokemon fight in full 3D, so with the use of the DiskDrive and a new Transfer Pak that attached to the N64 controllers expansion port you would be able to achieve this, eventually the DiskDrive was written out of the Pocket Monsters Stadium Game and they released it as a N64 game.

They later released a sequel that had more features including every Pokemon which eventually came to the US as Pokemon Stadium packaged with the transfer pak. A third version also came out which became Pokemon Stadium 2 in the US with all the new Pokemon from Gold/Silver. Other good uses like being able to transfer your players from the GBC Mario Golf/Tennis to the N64 game and unlocking mario characters on the GBC versions,

Rare tried incorporating it in some of their games like their two Disney licensed kart games and a killer app (besides pokemon) for the transfer pak that would allow you to transfer your face from the GBCamera to Perfect dark for multiplayer, however because of school shootings happening at the time this was removed and replaced with just a few unlockables if you had the GB Perfect Dark prequel.

In japan we saw a few more games like Mario Artist (64DD), and some robot games.
The transfer pak opened a lot of possibilities and even though it had a big installed based because of the Pokemon Fad we didn't see all it had to offer.And while it couldn't play gameboy games like the Super Gameboy (though if programmed you could emulate the game like in the Pokemon Stadium games), but not many people jumped on it.

Like in the NES something similar to the Super Gameboy was available for developers and the Press, but it was not available to the public.

The not so Present

E3 2002

Nintendo announces it will focus on off-line gaming and its multiplayer aspect with the help of the GBA. This met with a lot of bad publicity from the media as they saw it as gimmicky thing instead of online gaming which was the future. Even though the GCN-GBA cable had been announced with the Gamecube, and proved to be a nice addition to gaming.

It didn't allow you to play games on your tv (though Pokemon Box emulated it), but instead it worked more like an enhanced Transfer Pak, except that since you used your GBA, you could also display something on the screen and even transfer games to the GBA's limited memory so that you could play without any game connected.

Again it was the Pokemon games that got the most userbase from this. Pokemon Colosseum and Pokemon XD were a storyline improved versions of the Stadium games, while Pokemon Box was a sim type game like Hey you Pikachu and Pokemon Box allowed you to transfer any of your Pokemon to a Memory card so you could catch as many Pokemon as you'd want.

Games like Animal Crossing really used it like getting stuff from the e-reader cards, going to a secret island, having the island around you with you on your GBA and even transfering the NES games you found on AC so you could play them on the road, all without a cartridge.

The innovative Chao's VMU's from the Sonic Adventure Dreamcast games ended up working even better on the Gamecube with its GBA transfering, with you being able to transfer him between most GBA and GCN sonic games, even without a GBA game

Zelda used it in Wind Waker as an item to be able to find hidden treasures, while the underrated Zelda Four Swords Adventure game trully used full use of its features, being one of the most fun games I have ever played. Pacman VS also is the party game, for friends and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles while not the best execution it did live up to the name. Sadly to get 4 GBAs and 4 GCN-GBA cables was hard to do.

he new Mario Tennis/Golf used it for something similar to the N64 counterparts and other games like Madden let you make your plays in the screen so no one else could see. But even though it was regarded as a failure it had a lot more support that it did in the N64, even if most games just used it for a simple "unlock stuff from both versions"

Nintendo once again allowed us to play our GB games in the big screen with the gameboy player, while it was a little expensive it made gamers happy and was a form of connectivity. Though games couldn't use special borders like in the SGB days.

The Future?

While some saw Connectivity as a failure, it brought some very fun and very helpful additions that proved to be not a gimmick at all, for a list of some of the best features with "Connectivity" check out this article

Thanks to the Wi-Fi and blue-tooth capabilities of the Wii and DS, we have seen they are able to connect with each other, this itself is an advantage as we no longer have to get a separate attachment to connect them making it easier to get players to connect.
We have seen the new Pokemon Battle Revlution able to transfer your Pokemon to the Wii from your Diamond/Pearl games ala Pokemon Stadium, so that should prove Nintendo has not abandoned the connectivity and will announce more stuff along the way.

Hopefully we will see the some of the best features of Connecting back that we have seen, in the past and get more support, heck now i'd like even more expansive features. It I hope its not the end of GB on my tv, with the gameboy player from the Gamecube not compatible with the Wii, i'd like to see something similar built for the Wii, even a DS Player, as the game Trauma Center has proven, the Wii remote can also work similar to the stylus, or just using the DS as a controller while watching the DS screen on the tv, the possibilities are endless. Hopefully we see it happen.

Yesterdays update while Copy and Pasted I just wanted people to make sure they knew about it, worst case scenario that wallpaper at the end is awesome and people should be using it. Today I listened to some Pokemon songs here . They don't normally play Pokemon stuff but they might in the future and its an alright "station". You'll need Winamp or other stream player to play it.
I've been playing Pokemon Diamond a lot lately so I've actually updated The Pokeblog daily. Again that blog is mostly experimental and it changes a lot from post to post on what I expect from it.

I took advantage of DeepDiscount's sale to catch up on Pokemon DVDs. I now own all the Pokemon Box sets. I skipped out on volume releases since I expect them to get box sets later on. I did get the last Orange Island volume since its the only one I needed. I also got all the movies with the exception of 5-7 mostly since they were still too expensive and I'll get the latest movie through Amazon later.

I didn't want to get the movie DVDs for the longest time since they were in fullscreen but I finally decided to get them since I know they'll never be re-released in a better format..Other than that it was very nice to open a package with so many Pokemon DVDs.

The Pokeball Go!

Hello,

Like I have mentioned on two previous posts The Pokeball's blog will continue, I am still unsure on what direction I'm want to take it yet. I have had many various different plans but for the time being it will continue to be pretty much the same way it has been for the past few months. I'll see where it goes from there.

The Pokeblog will also continue, that site will mostly deal with me blogging about my journey through the games. Finally the reason it took me so long to start re-updating this website was because I ended up being very busy for a few weeks and after that It was hard for me to get my things together. I was about to post a video even though I didn't want to because I couldn't think of anything else and then I receive this wonderful email. Its just the Pokecenter NY trying to show you their new Summer fun merch. Its mostly caps and shirts with generic new D/P pokemon nothing interesting but makes for the kind of post I wanted for tonight. I'll be back Sunday and talk about the site.

Yesterday actually went pretty good I had a small 'Poke' party which I'll post about on Sunday. What I wanted to write about today is this website. The Pokeball as posted on one of the very first entries is a big project I've been working for a long time. It still wasn't ready however I thought I wanted to write a blog through my journey as I played Pokemon Diamond/Pearl, this idea later became a blog to hype people about the new games. You're eagerly awaiting the new game and want to read daily updates, which is what I did, does that mean this blog is over? not really, I will continue blogging with random Pokemon happenings for people who want to check it out. I am not sure if it'll still be daily or not most likely it will but it'll have more than a few updates per week worst case scenario.
As I've been Playing Pokemon Diamond I feel like I want to just type through what I've done on my journey so I decided to revive my original idea. Since it would be too messy to have it on this same blog I created a different one, called The Pokeblog. This will just be The Pokeball's blog or I'm not sure yet how things are going to work out yet but I'll be sure to make it known. the basics will be this blog will be mostly the same as its always been, while the new The Pokeblog will be my original idea for the current blog and just blog about the games, check it out:

Today Cartoon Network aired "Following a Maiden's Journey", which is the first episode of the three used in the Diamond and Pearl "movie". Fellow ToonZoner Inkan1969 mentioned that based on the title its "Nice to know that Dawn is a maiden."

well...not for long with that skirt.

One of the people I encountered at Target while getting Pokemon Diamond was teasing me about how its for 5th graders while I explained it was for "Everyone" as the rating explained... Anyways she saw that same picture today and commented:
"that is one short skirt, and note rated for EVERYONE"

Tomorrow is my birthday so if I don't have time I'll just make a quick update. The review of the NYC event I think I will hold on until later this week. I'll also have an announcement about what is next in The Pokeball's "The Pokeblog" around Wednesday.

I can't beleive it but the games are out and I'm sure most of you got it. Yesterday I was originally going to spend the night with a two friends play video games and be geeky all night get the games in the morning and all 3 of us start the games over to get all 3 starters but my girlfriend was sick so I visited her instead. Though last night I did swing by walmart at midnight to see if they had the new games . Of course after finally finding someone to ask no one there knew what I was talking about...I went to hang out with some friends and then went home. I woke up around noon got dressed and headed to Target to get the new games. Thought I might have no luck since it was later in the day and pre-orders were insane. Even though I pre-ordered I know how that means squat to stores. Luckily I love in a small city so the shelves were full of the games. I saw other kids also waiting to grab the games and even strategy guides. I ended up choosing Diamond. I was stopped on my way to the out of target on three times by three old friends but finally got to my car only to not be able to get to my house because of a firetruck.

I haven't had too much time to play the game but so far I like it a lot, decided not to write about it since most of you are already experiencing it and can read it elsewhere. I will write about the games later in the week though. I was able to catch the NY City event from pokemon.com which I will write a big entry with pics tomorrow.

I'm tired so no pictures today.

Rad Reviews

Reviews for Diamond and Peal are starting to pop up. IGN and 1UP have their reviews and it got 8.5 from all of them. Mostly good points about great games with he only cons being that the game hasn't evolved as much as it could and that it doesn't push the boundaries of the DS. The 1UP review was by Jeremy Parish who is a "Pokemon hater" so it this is great news. All Pokemon fans already know they are going to like it but these reviews prove everyone is going to like them. Talking about reviews, I watched the Pokemon Diamond and Pear movie, and here are my thoughts..

They should have timed to air the end of Battle frontier sometime this week or saturday, to lead up better for D/P, oh well.

The intro was good to the pokemon world. The actual Pokemon theme is not bad for a 'rap' theme IMO, it could have been a lot worse.

Dawns voice? not too bad I think it'll grow on me.

I liked the intro as it was similar to Ash trying to choose his starter in
the first episode. I also liked how the episode focused on Dawn, a nice change. Piplup is soo cute . I like hearing all these new Pokemon names, sure they leaked but I didn't bother to read them, I like learning them from the game itself. It was funny how Turtwig stayed eating through out everything and the lab being all messed up.

Seeing that legendary Pokemon in the beginning was pretty cool, ala HooH. I can't believe that didnt take up the whole episode and there was time for Ash. Ash coming in wasn't too bad/out of place either. loved Piplup and Dawn together. Piplup getting owned by Pikachu and her bike = awesome hahaha.

random questions: I thought in the anime you could capture another trainers Pokemon with another pokeball, i'm sure they've done it in the past.

I don't like it when TR is defeated by amateur trainers, it makes they seem no threat at all when they go against ash. It was great seeing both piplup and dawn beat up when calling Professor Rowen. I like his voice, its different, just like he is different from Oak/birch/elm. since people are comparing VAs (still!) I like them all, even James, the only one I have a problem is Jenny however 4Kids had replaced her already anyway so its no big deal.

second summer cottage? haha great. some good news for TR after being blasted away twice in so little time and I can only guess it gets worse for them.. oh god, more bottle caps for him to loose . OMG Carnivine must have starved! lol a little plothole there. I hate how James Pokemon repeat the gimmicks of his past Pokemon though

Hmmm is this the first time we see Route numbers in the anime? starly? i don't like him, seems a pretty generic bird type. I liked Pauls name, at least he doesn't seem like a rookie, which is good why would Ash's rival be a rookie. haha, he even shows Ash strategy. Weird that he has an elekid since Gary has an Elekible..

Ash has sure learned to climb after all those movies and episodes, so its not that unbelievable. Dawn is as tall as Ash??

Wish Ash's hat had been different so it would be a total different attire. hahaha Pokemon Poetry. Professor Rowan seemed very nice to Dawn, I hope later in the series Rowan doesn't favor in talking to Ash as the 'main' person. No mention of May doing contests? a simple reference would have been nice. I'm not sure if her joining the party went as good as it could have been. The rival battle was alright.

Overall a pretty fun "movie", i was very entertained and it hyped me up for the games a lot. Now i'm off to go see if I can see if a store broke the street date and hang out.

The new series premiers in June? not too bad especially if its early June.

By the way, I didn't have any luck finding anyone that broke the street date, oh well I can wait 1 day. I can't believe it comes out tomorrow.

I digg early copies and showings

So thanks to digg I found out Destructoid reported some store broke the street date of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. Its interesting since yesterday GoNintendo reported that someone in Canada got a copy from a store that broke the street date. I'm going to try my luck later today and see if any stores broke the street date in my town. I think everyone should, you never know. You really should click the link on the digg link though and read the comments, they are pretty funny. It also shows that everyone is into this new batch of games, I mean even digg users want it!

On another note tonight Cartoon Network airs the first three Pokemon Diamond and Pearl anime episodes as a special "sneak peek movie". If you miss it they'll air each episode separate starting Monday and Thursday all three episodes again.

So Friday we have the Poke'Mon Diamond and Pearl movie at 8 p.m. Eastern and Pacific; Monday we have "Following a Maiden's Voyage;" Tuesday we have "Two Degrees of Seperation;" Wednesday we have "When Poke'Mon Worlds Collide;" and Thursday we get an encore of Poke'Mon Diamond and Pearl the movie at 7 p.m. Eastern and Pacific. It looks like we have three opportunities to catch these three episodes before the official premieres later this year.

hmm..I don't know what to do, most likely I'll be out hanging out on when it airs tonight. If I record it its not going to look to good since my VCR is old, but I'm not sure I want to wait for the later viewings. Well I'm going to go to bed soon, I have a few things to do tomorrow not counting all the Pokemon stuff I also want to sneak in.

Well it looks like the party at the Nintendo World Store, the ex NY PokeCenter will be available as a webcast on Pokemon.com. I think that is pretty cool, though Sunday I'm probably going to be too busy playing Diamond and Pearl to even care about the event. They might just be lame clips they put up so it might not even be worth checking out, oh well I probably will.

I got to play Pokemon Pearl demo yesterday at Best Buy. I only played it for a little bit but I really enjoyed the little I play. The graphics really remind me of Dragon Quest VII which I liked a lot. I can't believe for a second that I thought they were only a minor improvement over third gen. I only played for about 2 minutes so nothing too exciting.

On another note we are four days towards release...It feels so odd since its being released on a Sunday the days will actually go pretty fast and be here before I know it. Now where are you going to buy it? I've been looking at the Sunday ads thanks to cheapassgamer and it appears Circuit City has the best deal with the games only being $27. I personally hate CC but if I can save a buck or two I'll buy it there. There is no CC in my city and I don't want to drive 45 minutes to get it so I'm going to see if Target Price Matches, if not I'll just return it later after I buy it from CC. Which I hope things are easy, after seeing all the pre-orders sold not including people who didn't pre-order, I hope its not that hard to find a copy. Worse case scenario I did resrve both games at Target for whatever its worth. I don't think any store actually "reserves" your game from what I've seen over the years, good thing is generally there is nothing to worry about.

Thanks to GoNintendo I found out Pre-Sales for Diamond and Pearl have sold tremendously well, which I speculated since I have not seen any stylus at all. I also found out the Headset works great and is really worth it.

Mostly a short update today, I did get to play Diamond and Pearl at Circuit City today which I will talk about tomorrow along with the best Place to get Diamond and Pearl.

Pokemon Gets around

Pokemon news seem to be popping up everywhere. I've read dozens of first look and impressions from many different websites. They are all giving Diamond and Pearl a lot of Hype. Even more 'mainstream/fake gamer' websites like MTV are giving it good press. If Pokemon sold like Hot Cakes when it got bad press just imagine how it is going to do this time. Other sites are doing the idea I have had since I decided to make a "Pokeblog" months ago like 1UP. It is also the 10th anniversary of the Pokemon anime so in Japan they've been hyping that up like the news of Phantom of the Opera star in the new Pokemon movie.

Needless to say, I am hyped, heck even an email from Amazon is reminding me that I should buy Diamond and Pearl...which of course I won't from them since they offer it at a great 3% off retail price at 34.95...

I Saw 300 when it came out and I absolutely loved it. Not only that, it also got me into the mood of anything in the Greek era. Since then I've been watching my Hercules and Xena season sets I bought a year ago and they have been lots of fun. Its true, I'm a big Xena/Herc fan. Not only that, I've also been watching a lot of movies set in that time period. Of course, I have not been too strict also allowing some Roman time movies etc. There have been many parody trailers of 300, but when I stumbled upon this Pokemon one I cackled.
Great movie, even a 10 year old girl saw the movie at my Pokemon League and we kept discussing it so it is something everyone can watch.

Go Regionals

Pokemon TCG Regionals start today and there will be another one next Saturday. This is the biggest event you can attend that can still be semi-close to your location. Regionals are a lot of fun, I Judged the Mississippi Regionals last year and had a blast. I am not going this year as I just didn't want to play or drive that much to judge, however if you're in the area it is worth going, check it out dates are in the official Pokemon TCG page.

The cool people at Gonintendo posted an entry about his thoughts on the new Pokemon games. It is very interesting to find out more about people who haven't played the games since the first generation. It seems with Diamond and Pearl many people who haven't played in years are interested and want to check it out again. Now that the fad has been over for years and they see "oh its still going on", instead of 'hating' on it they want to re-live it.

We are practically "there" for the new games, with less than 10 days away from the new game. The Press already got their review copies of the game and we also see a new commercial featuring the actual game (the last one focused on pre-order stylus).

I am unsure if I really like the commercial or not. I really like the idea of raining Pokeballs but then we get some uninteresting game footage and its the end. The Music is not upbeat, which makes the commercial kind of 'meh', however it is a classic version of the Pokemon theme playing in the background so it makes it sound like the "epic return" which is good. I guess maybe a nice change to the more "rock" commercial we already had. The narrator like the music at first seems to make the commercial boring however it is clear and not shout-like which is also a nice change from other commercials. So yeah it has pros and cons. One odd thing to note is they mention "Gotta Catch 'em All!", I haven't heard them use that slogan since the release of Gold/Silver.

Pokemon: The Trading Arcade Game

A Pokemon arcade game that uses collectible coins to battle it out, this is brilliant! I am sure this is going to be very popular in Japan since it has all the winning combinations. Too bad it'd be the opposite in the states but I guess I'll discuss that in a few days. I can't wait to hear more information on this game, it has a lot of potential which hopefully won't be dismissed, the graphics are also great.

On other crap, I decided to buy a new laptop which should hopefully arrive tomorrow. That means I will be able to do daily updates again and of better quality(well...umm...hopefully).

Puzzling

I bought Pokemon Trozei not too long ago, i got it for $20 so it was a fair price. I am still unsure if i want to open and keep it or return it to the store. Yeah it wasn't that expensive but for that prize i think i'd rather get a different game. I'm a pretty big Pokemon fan but even top cut Pokemasters like me are on a budjet. I don't usually like puzzle games, at least not endless puzzles games ala Tetris. Trozei is pretty interesting with the touchscreen though. The main reason I want the game though is for the story, being a Pokemon Researcher that I am, hell The Pokeball exists for that whole reason, but thats another story. So I am not sure if the game is worth it mainly for the story as the puzzle element won't entertain me for long. I will ponder my decision for the next week or so.

Yoshi is a Pokemon

On Pokemon Red/Blue you train a dragonair until its about to evolve, you go into the mysterious dungeon and the location were Mewtwo was. You use thunderstone and dragonair evolves into dragonite except his sprite is going to be of Yoshi not Dragonite.

That was the April Fools Joke of 1999 of some magazine. I remember reading it and thinking it was real, it seemed like an easter egg, its not like they were telling you how to get Mew or that Yoshi was a Pokemon, in fact they told you it was just a sprite change everything else was a regular Dragonite.

Well I am still without a computer but that should be taken care of by thursday, but with that into account not much has happened lately though i do have some stuff to post about that will be soon. We are getting closer and closer to the release date, the only news that have popped up is the whole three theme decks for the Diamond and Pearl TCG set each representing each starter.

Power Rangers and the Temple of the Sea

So, yesterday I finally watched the Pokemon Ranger movie and it was umm.... not bad. The movie started pretty interesting, however after that it started getting a little slow. The fact that Cartoon Network had commercials even seven minutes didn't help. They were not even long commercials, they were pretty short but the fact that there were so many made it annoying, I would have preferred longer ones less often. Anyways, enough about the CN, even without the commercials the movie seemed to re-tread over the same information, maybe if I hadn't been so sleepy when I watched it I would have had a different opinion. Anyways, even with all the complaining about the pacing it was fun. Having the Pokemon Ranger a focus in the movie was fun and also seeing May take more charge in the movie and not let Ash do all the 'starring'. Not a bad movie, I heard it gets a lot of bad rap just because its not as good as the Lucario movie and its true. Though Manaphy's relationship with May did remind me of Jirachi and Max.

updates and Pokemon Stylus

Well I'm having computer problems at the moment so I may not be able to update daily this upcoming week, I will definitely be trying and most likely will as we are getting extremely close to the launch of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl.

Anyways yesterday I reserved my copies of Diamond and Pearl at Target. I had to go to two differen Targets to get both of the Pokemon Stylus and in both stores I got the last stylus in both stores, talk about luck! I'm sure other stores may still have the stylus. Its only been a week and the stylus' are all gone! Don't fret though, some stores may get more and also check out K-Marts in your town, especially the ones that have very little customers. I reserved Zelda Wind Waker for the Gamecube just a week or two before the game came out and was able to get the rare bonus disc.

Anyway the stylus are very nice, they are very long which is nice and the point seems better than the regular DS Lite stylus, so a big improvement, the actual Pokemon on top Palkia and Dialga are pretty well done counting how small they are too, I'm glad I picked them up. Also in Target when you reserve them you get a nice Pokemon Gift Card with the version you reserve.

Pokemon Stylus are Morphomenal pt. 2

In a continuation to yesterdays post here is Pokemon Centers pre-order deals, you can order them together or individually (diamond, pearl or both). At $50 each or $95 without shipping for both it seems very steep, you do get a "scenario" guide and an exclusive pin for each version and the bonus stylus. Even though the PokeCenter has never been a cheap place this is too much I doubt the "scenario" guide is worth it fromt he sound and look of it its just a strategy guide, and don't forget they state they will ship on April 23rd not before... Not to mention my horrible experience with the PokeCenter itself that i posted about a few weeks ago here. The best deal is still Target as mentioned earlier.

By now i bet you've seen the new Pokemon Diamond and Pearl commercial on TV and you've heard about the pre-order bonus that EBGames/Gamestop has. Well the good news is you don't have to pre-order at EB Games to get the stylus, you can also do it at many other stores including Circuit City, Toys R Us and Target. This is very good news as EB Games is a horrible store that many of us know otherwise than to shop there, hell when Pokemon Emerald came out they sold it for $40! I wouldn't doubt they'd do the same for the new DS games..
By the way, the best deal is Target as you will get a five dollar gift card and the stylus if you pre-order from them not to mention that they price match in case they don't have the game as cheap on release.

On other news we started Saffron city on the Pokemon TCG League to earn Sabrina's Marsh badge yesterday. It was pretty fun I told the kids that I got a psychic message from Sabrina herself to inform them the Saffron Gym was now open and they got all excited, the Sinnoh TCG League should probably begin in the summer. just 2 months later than the games.

Well, Pokemon TCG is giving us the first look at Diamond and Pearl here in the US with these three collectors tins. It kind of tricks people into thinking it only has Diamond and Pearl Pokemon but its not a bad deal in itself. For $13 you get four booster packs plus a tin and a D/P preview, a pretty good deal even without the D/P card like most other collector tins they release and with two boosters from the newest set and one from Delta Species and Dragon Frontier you can't go wrong. In fact I even recommend this for people who are not into the Pokemon TCG as you will get lots of cool artwork for a cheap price.

New Pokemon named....

Well thanks to Pokemon site Pokexperto we know all the names of the new Pokemon, of course everyone stole their news and none gave credit back. Joe from Serebii proved once again what a douche but thats nothing new. Hopefulle people give Pokexperto more credit, since after all Pokexperto is a pretty good spanish Pokemon website and deserves the credit he didn't get from other websites, so yeah thanks to Pokexperto for giving that information.

As far as the names, I've only looked at a few, for some reason I dont really memorize the names of new Pokemon until the games are actually released, with exceptions for the heavily adveticed like say Munchlax and Lucario. Couldn't update last two days since i was tired after solving some Bank problems they randomly decided to give me, but the updates should keep going, as we come aboard the Hype train to Diamond and Pearl, as cheesy as that may sound.

Mystery Dungeon Red/Blue Rescue Team Only $20

Amazon has this new thing called Deal of the Day, and todays deal is Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Blue Rescute Team for the DS only $20. Not part of Amazon's Deal of the Day but the GBA Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Red Rescue Team also for $20. Remember you get free shipping in orders of $25 or more on Amazon. I am very tempted on getting them or at least the DS version. I think the only difference between both is touch screen control and being able to see the stats on the bottom screen while the GBA version everything is manual and also different Pokemon but don't quote me on that one. Reviews were mostly positive except the DS version getting more negativity for it basically being a GBA game with minimum extras, yet it was the better of the two just it seemed more impressive for the GBA to have this game. The Mystery Dungeon series is very popular in Japan, glad to see Pokemon made it into the series, I really liked Torneko: The Last Hope which is from the Mystery Dungeon series only with Dragon Quest/Dragon Warrior characters.

Here is a interview John (Water Pokemon Master) did with Sarah Natochenny over email for Pokebeach. The interview is actually kind of boring and lame but hey someone might be interested..

1. When did you first hear about Ash needing a new voice actor?
My manager sent me on the audition around April of 2006.

2. How many people showed up to audition for the voice?
Actors get appointments so there was no American Idol line for it, but when I asked out of curiosity, they said a LOT. They probably called all the NY agencies for submissions and went through their own files of actors they personally know. So yeah. A lot.

3. Once you got the part, how did you react? How did others in your family or your friends act?
I was shocked. Completely. I remember walking out of the 1st audition, calling my mom, and telling her how awful my audition was. I was shocked to even get a callback. My family was proud, my friends lovingly laughed at me. Or maybe not so lovingly.

4. Have you ever met Veronica Taylor or any of the other original VAs?
Nope.

5. What is a typical day for you go like? Do you drive to work? Talk to other VAs? Get Starbucks? Leave and go to McDonalds? :p
I don't eat McDonalds. Sorry! I live in Manhattan, and actually got behind a wheel for the first time only a few days ago...which is probably illegal...I only drove like 3 feet in an empty parking lot. I walk to the studio, or if it's freezing I'll take a cab. I live too close to it to make any sense out of taking the subway there, but that's generally how I get around. I'm usually the only actor in the studio, sometimes we overlap, but I rarely see other actors, because we all record separately. We order food at the studio, I usually have a salad or fruit with yogurt. Sometimes there's a chocolate cake hanging out somewhere in the studio and I eat that too :). On a day that I'm not recording, I'm a regular actor. Auditions, some work, German and French classes, improv practice, and just hanging out with friends, with my cat...regular stuff!

6. How long do you usually spend working as Ash everyday? Does it ever get tiring or over-exciting?
Well I don't work every day. I usually schedule it as one long day. It sometimes gets tiring, because I'm naturally a pretty low-energy person, but they take good care of me!

7. How do you prepare for an episode? Do they show you the script in advance? Do you practice it? Or do they just give you the script when you walk in?
The script never leaves the studio. There's a synopsis that I read, and then go right into it. I read the script as we go so my reads are correct.

8. How hard is it to match the lip flap?
At first it was quite difficult, but now I usually get it on the 1st take.

9. Has Ash's voice changed your own voice in any way?
Not at all.

10. Did you enjoy dubbing the Manaphy movie? How long did it take to do?
I loved it. The movie is sooo beautiful. It took me about 6 hours to do. It comes out April 3rd!!

11. Have you started dubbing the Diamond and Pearl season in Sinnoh? Do you know any Diamond and Pearl English names, besides Mantyke, Manaphy, Buizel, or Chatot?
I just dubbed the 1st two episodes...and you ain't gettin any names outta me! (WPM Note: the first two episodes of the Sinnoh region are the last two episodes of the current season. The actual D/P season does not start until summer.)

12. How close are you to the other VAs on the show?
We're all friends, but we don't see each other as much as we should! Parties are always a blast with these people.

13. Have you read any criticism about the new VAs? How does it affect you?
Sometimes I read the boards but I don't post on them. I get a lot of fan/not so much a fan mail. Some I agree with, some I don't, some makes me work at the voice harder, some the read harder etc. Overall it's helped.

14. Has working with Pokemon opened any doors as far as future voice acting work goes?
People think it's cool. Even people who are in straight acting take notice. Mainly it's just random and unexpected for a young actress to say "yep and I also do Ash on Pokemon."

15. Is there anything else you would like to tell us about what you have seen behind the scenes of making Pokemon episodes?

I honestly can't think of anything because the work isn't very integrated...we have a lot of laughs!

Mining Emerald

Today I went to K-Mart, which i don't do too often since its usually a pretty horrible store with nothing you're looking for but thats another story. Anyways in the game section they had a non-used open copy of Pokemon Emerald for $10, so I quickly grabbed and bought it. It was just the game it self with no box or instruction booklet, but no matter how much I like to keep that memorabilia that is the packaging it is just not worth the extra $25 it would cost me with it.
Emerald was a game I debated endlessly about on forums that it was going to come out since Ruby & Sapphire came out, and yes I ended up being right. I beleive it was announced for Japan before the FireRed/LeafGreen remakes came out in the US. I was even more hyped for Emerald than the remakes for some reason, even though it was just an updated version of R/S while the R/B remakes would have more new stuff (remake > updated game).
By the time Emerald came out I was not really a gamer anymore and I was busy with real life that I didn't care to buy it. After all, it was just an updated version of R/S, I could wait until it got a price drop. I waited and waited and never saw a price drop..I thought i was going to have to fork the full price of a 2 year old game but luckily i was able to get it for cheap. Now the dilemma I have is wether I should start playing it. I feel if I do I might be all pooped out of the Pokemon formula by the time Diamond & Pearl comes out and not enjoy them as much or not want to play them. However if I wait it might be hard to play the game after all the improvements I find in D&P and i'd also be too busy with D&P to even care.

Borders late Pokemon Party

So on my random hanging out at the mall yesterday I ended up going to see what was new at Borders(book store). I then saw a whole stand dedicated to Pokemon, normally they only have them for newly released books, movies, new fad and just about any cash-in on what is popular at the moment for example they had a stand for TMNT which makes perfect sense since the new TMNT movie comes out soon (which is going to be a blast!).
Diamond & Pearl are still too far away for any store to do a cash-in, the anime just got into re-runs, no new game no new interest and the 10th Anniversary was last year.

The selection they had was really weird, the newest thing they had was the "best of" Pokemon Adventures manga they released for the 10th anniversary a while ago, after that it was Primas Ultimate Pokedex which has been out for quite a while. What was really odd is most of the stuff they had was from the Pokemon fad era back in 1999/2000! They had "make your own" Pokemon things (i don't think it qualifies as a book), a generic Pokemon book (also from that era), but what I liked the most was the Pokemon Tales mini-books for pre-schoolers, I never thought i'd ever see those again. They even had some "begginer books" from the Johto era re-telling some random Shuckle filler episode from Johto. It sure looks like a good "late 10 year anniversary party", though counting most of the stuff they had has been out of production for more than five years i'm assuming it was just random stuff they found and decided to see if it sold.
I checked an actual borders store (i.e. not one inside a mall) and yeah they had it too so I'm guessing it is a national thing to get rid of such old stuff. It would have been neat if they had waited a little bit more for the release of D&P but they probably aren't even aware of that. But this is great news for anyone wanting to see if they find some "past" Pokemon merchandise, I myself am very tempted in those Pokemon Tales books. they're cute.

Goodbye M&M

I had been wanting to catch pokemon(anime) but I never got arround to wake up, so early for it. Even though I went to bed at 3 after a TMNT "party" I finally woke up today, I got to catch the last 10 minutes of last weeks new episode re-run and the new episode.
I got to see May's Blaziken evole into Torchic and battle Ash's Grovyle, which ends with you not knowing who is going to win only to find out later its a tie and they break the medal in half (similar to Ash/Gary's half Pokeball IMO). Then the new episode is full of twists, May decides to go to Johto alone and Max will stay in Hoenn until he is old enough to be a trainer and battle Ash. No long departure made but it still feels sad as this marks the end of "Advance Generation". Ash and Brock part ways for the 100th time, and Ash gets to meet Gary's (now wearing his FireRed/LeafGreen attire) new Elikible from Sinnoh. Ash gets home and gets another Party, he brags about his Battle Frontier victory and decides to go to the next region aka the usual but it still feels good as this marks the beggining of Diamond & Pearl, even the "To Be Continued" text hypes it up. If i didn't have such a bad short term memory I'd remember what it said. Pretty Epic, trust me.

Overall the episodes were pretty fun, the new voices now feel more at home and it was nice seeing the end of the AG. We are going to get re-runs now, which I will use catch up on all the Battle Frontier episodes I missed and hopefully we get new episodes in time for the new games.

I don't heart NY PokeCenter

So I said on the last post I would tell about my experience ordering from them, but for that we need to go back in time... Back when the Pokemon Center NY was still a full store and not just a section of the Nintendo World Store, a few months before Pokemon Colosseum came out. The Pokemon Center always has pre-order goodies for a lot of their big products; Pokemon Colosseum had a free Colosseum t-shirt. I call to make my order and they tell me they only take calls before 4:00PM Monday-Friday, well I have school until 3 so I had to mad-drive home to make it on time which a few times i didn't make it, only for when I did the "lady" who takes orders not be there.. Luckily next time I do she is finally there, she finally takes my order. I ask her how much shipping would be and she said "I don't know". What kind of store has a "I don't know" shipping rates?
The game came out and it finally arrived about a week after...it could have been slower but normally stores ship the product before release date so you get it ON the release date. but that would just be a small annoyance.

I open it and yes the shirt is cool, the graphics on it is kind of cheap but no big deal it was free after all...I look at my receipt only to find the shirt wasn't free! They were charging me $20 for it! I then look at the shipping and I see its $12! what it wasn't even fast shipping and i was never told it'd be so much, it shouldn't have been for what it was. I also start reading a "sorry" note but they ran out of Jirachi bonus discs so they'll ship one when they get more in.. The bonus disc that was available everywere before the game came out if you pre ordred it and I didn't even get it. After a few emails I was able to get the $20 of the shirt back and months later I got the bonus disc (almost pointless since it was a "preview of Colosseum" bonus disc). Of course I still had to take the shipping on the ass. As cool as it was to receive a package from the "Pokemon Center", the whole experience left me with a very sour taste in my mouth that I didn't even order the exclusive Pokemon Box game, so take into consideration before you order.

They aren't that pricey counting they are big, rare and exclusive not to mention very well done. I'd get one myself but I've had a very bad experience ordering from the PokeCenter. I just posted two PokeCenter posts in a row so I'll type up my experience with them on my next blog to let people know a personal experience before anyone orders.

There aren't that many Pokemon Podcasts and Pokebeach released their first one this morning so I decided to write a small review about it:

Format: conversation
Content: Pokemon Anime and TCG
Length: 30 - 45 minutes; (first one was 65)

The Host of the podcast is John (aka Water Pokemon Master) among other guests/friends which I am not sure if they'll become regular. It starts talking about the anime, in this case the Pokemon movies in general especially the ninth Pokemon movie about Lucario. Later they quickly touch the subject about the popularity of Pokemon and then go into discussing Diamond & Pearl including the Pokemon and their names. After that they start taking some calls with some generic questions, nothing good but not too bad. At the end they discuss the Trading Card Game, with some of the recent happenings.

The audio quality is not the greatest but its not bad, it could have been a lot worse, its listenable though one of the guests you could hardly hear. The music between segments was not bad as its taken from the Pokemon Anime though they are too long, they really need to just use clips of them.

Overall the PokeBeach podcast was not bad and shows some promise, I'll definately check it out. This was only their first try and the first episode will be recorded this saturday. You can't subscribe to it just yet but you can download it here:

Proves EGM wrong, not a Fad.

I got the March edition of EGM in the mail about a week ago and it has a nice two page feature about Pokemon. Of course its nothing new for people that follow Pokemon closely. They mention various things about how it is not just a fad, what made the game such as huge success, how the player/fan base keeps getting bigger with new younger players and older fans that stick with it and final fun at Pokemon but its also a respected magazinely how iconic Pokemon has become.
It also gives a small preview of Pokemon Diamond/Pearl and Battle Revolution for the Wii (including some anger about the friend codes). Not only is EGM a magazine that usually pokes by most gamers so its nice to see this article and better inform other people who many still think Pokemon died seven years ago.

well my excitement for Diamond and Pearl went from low to high and I want to chronicle the events that will lead towards the release of it. That won't be all though, I'd also like to voice my opinion on random Pokemon happenings, try to make sense of somethings in the fandom, give more detail on some events that don't get enough coverage or are unknown to many people and also Pokemon is from the 90s so if I ever get off topic with something from the 90s it seems perfectly reasonable. There is no limits as long as its somewhat on topic.

so.....any visitor is probably wondering "what is 'The Pokeball'?"

That answer is way way too complex to even begin on just one blog post, in fact just thinking about it makes my headspin trying to find a simple way to explain so much in so little.

Some of you may ask "well what is this I am reading then?!" or "I though it was only a blog?".
what you see now is 'The Pokeblog', a feature only to be started until The Pokeball was finished. Given the mysticism of 'The Pokeball', it seems everything will be done from end to beggining and not the other way around; the same way you copied the answers to your math homework in the back of the book and solving it after or at least making it seem you did.

so, what is 'The Pokeball'??
If only it was that simple...
